We Keep Putting People in Rooms When the World Outside Would Bring Us Closer Together

Transcript

I always get heartbroken when I hear that people go on some type of gathering or meetup and they're like, yeah, I went to it.

I learned a lot.

I had a really hard time connecting with people.

I didn't get to talk to people.

I had my armor up the whole time and I just want to say that that's not your fault.

It's the responsibility of the facilitator to create the conditions in the tour or whatever gathering you're at to actually have you come forth. I don't know about you if you've gone to gatherings where you're kind of like trapped in a corner and someone might be talking to you or you're only talking to the same people.

I remember one time I was in a conference and it was at the beach but the entire time we were in the conference room and a lot of us were just kind of looking outside seeing the beautiful ocean while having someone speak to us and we were like can't we just like all walk out there and you can still give us your speech but it's a sunny day, it's beautiful, things of that nature.

So when an organizer doesn't use the space in a way that allows you to engage more with people, I just, it's such a bummer.

Even the most boring room has potential to be engaged with in some way that brings out more from each person who's attending the gathering.
